Our prana, our life force, is carried by our breath. I love the images put forth in this quote from the great yogi, Krishnamacharya.

Genesis 2:7 states, "Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

As God approached Adam to give him life, He approaches us every time we take a breath. As I retain my breath in pranayama, my mind is filled with the image of God's love as it fills and heals every part of my body, my mind, my soul. As I exhale and release my breath, I imaging myself moving closer to Him to seek for more. And as I hold my exhale, I can feel myself surrendering to God's will, trusting that He is willing to approach me and offer me my next breath. Nothing is more powerful than my God. In this life, I am connected to Him by the power his gift of breath.
